News NISSAN QASHQAI GOES ALL E-POWER: HYBRID RE-INVENTED FOR EVERY AUSTRALIAN DRIVER

08/09/2025, MELBOURNE: Nissan is proud to announce the arrival of the next-generation e-POWER QASHQAI, set to launch in Australia in 2026 with an upgraded and more efficient electrified powertrain.
Reflecting the growing demand from Australian drivers for hybrid vehicles, the QASHQAI will transition to an e-POWER-only lineup, delivering an EV-like driving experience without the need to plug in.
Building on the success of the current QASHQAI range and informed by increasing customer preference for hybrid and electrified technology, the shift to an exclusive e-POWER offering ensures new MY26 QASHQAI customers can experience the latest Nissan e-POWER technology.
Hybrid Reinvented, the e-POWER system offers smoother, more responsive performance and enhanced efficiency—bringing together the benefits of electric driving with the familiarity of a petrol engine that charges the battery.
"Australian drivers have spoken clearly through their purchasing decisions, particularly in higher-grade models – demonstrating clear preference for the smooth, efficient, and refined EV-like driving experience that e-POWER delivers." said Warwick Daly, Deputy Director Product & Retail Campaigns, Nissan Australia.
"Nissan’s hybrid reinvented technology – e-POWER- is the perfect stepping stone technology, offering an EV-like drive without the need to plug in."
Next-Generation e-POWER: More Efficient, Quieter, More Refined
Nissan's most advanced e-POWER system yet, features comprehensive re-engineering that delivers exceptional improvements across every key metric compared to the previous QASHQAI e-POWER generation. The figures expressed below have been calculated based on the European model of the QASHQAI, and Australian-model specific figures will be announced prior to sale in Australia:
European Performance & Efficiency Gains:*
• Fuel consumption: outstanding fuel efficiency at just 4.5L/100km (WLTP)
o 16% better real-world fuel economy compared to current generation
o 14% improvement in highway fuel consumption
o 1200km theoretical range [WLTP] on a single tank
• CO2 emissions: 12% reduction in CO₂ emissions (from 116g/km to 102g/km)
European Enhanced Refinement:*
• Cabin noise: 5.6dB reduction in cabin noise – delivering EV-like quietness
• +10kW boost in Sport Mode for more responsive performance
The e-POWER Advantage: Electric Feel, Everyday Convenience
Nissan e-POWER delivers the smoothness and instant response typically associated with electric driving with the familiar convenience of traditional vehicles:
• 100% electric motor drive – wheels are only powered by the electric motor
• No plug-in required – the advanced 1.5L turbocharged engine generates electricity ondemand
• Refuel at any petrol station in under 5 minutes
• Instant acceleration – no gear changes, no power lag
• Regenerative braking – converts kinetic energy back to electrical energy
Unlike traditional hybrids with complex gearboxes combining petrol and electric power, e- POWER's simple yet sophisticated approach means the engine never directly powers the wheels, creating an electric driving feel.
Advanced Technology Integration
The new QASHQAI features a dedicated e-POWER engine that incorporates variable compression ratio technology and operates more quietly and effectively at lower speeds than the previous QASHQAI e-POWER generation, contributing to the dramatically reduced cabin noise levels.
Australian Engineering Excellence Powers Global Innovation
A key highlight of the new e-POWER system is that its revolutionary X-in-1 powertrain, components of which were proudly engineered, prototyped and now manufactured in Australia. Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) in Dandenong South serves as the global sole supplier for these critical X-in-1 components, demonstrating Australia's integral role in Nissan's electrification strategy.
This local manufacturing capability not only supports Australian jobs and expertise but ensures that every new MY26 QASHQAI e-POWER globally is powered by Australian Made technology carrying the iconic kangaroo symbol.
Availability and Timeline
The all e-POWER QASHQAI line-up will be introduced in the first half of 2026. More details on the full model line-up, pricing and other specifications will be confirmed closer to the launch date.
