19/11/2025, MELBOURNE: Building on four decades of pickup heritage in Oceania, Nissan today unveiled its new Navara, set to raise the bar in the region’s one-tonne segment. The next-generation model is targeted to go on sale at the end of the first quarter of 2026, delivering reliability, capability, and technology, while progressing the Navara nameplate into a new, more advanced era of design.
Since December 1986, the Navara has been an integral part of Australia and New Zealand's automotive landscapes, with close to 500,000 units sold across the trans-Tasman markets.* Now, marking its 40th anniversary in 2026, the Navara takes everything Aussies and Kiwis have come to trust about the nameplate and elevates it to meet the demands of modern life.
The new Navara is built on a robust Alliance platform that blends global engineering excellence with distinctive Nissan styling and locally tuned handling. It delivers uncompromising capability, distinctive Nissan looks, and the refined on- and off-road performance that families in Australia and New Zealand can rely on.
"The new Navara represents what Australian drivers need from their pickup truck in this region," said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania.
"This isn't just evolution – it's built on four decades of Nissan experience, with deep Australian insights and a unique suspension calibration, tuned by Premcar specifically for our arduous conditions."
The new generation Navara pushes the boundaries of the nameplate, offering even more of what owners’ value—greater power and torque, improved efficiency, enhanced safety, and a host of advanced new technology features that make on, or off-road driving, easier.
With over 90% of customers for the outgoing D23 Navara selecting a double cab pickup paired with an automatic transmission, Nissan has simplified the Navara lineup and will offer the next-generation model exclusively in this body style from launch.
Australian-Engineered Excellence: Where Heritage Meets Innovation
The Navara benefits from locally tuned, and tested suspension by Premcar that address the diverse needs of pickup buyers across Oceania. This unique domestic experience and engineering knowledge ensures exceptional on-road and off-road performance, steadfast handling when towing, and a large load-carrying capability. It also ensures, whether unladen or loaded to maximum capacity, the new Navara delivers comfort and confidence – reflecting feedback from four decades of use in this market.
"The local suspension development program represents one of the most comprehensive engineering projects undertaken by Nissan here in Australia," said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania.
"Premcar invested countless man hours, driving the new Navara over eighteen thousand kilometres, testing across every conceivable surface and driving condition – from the Outback's corrugated roads to urban stop-start traffic with heavy loads."
All grades of the new Navara are fitted with distinct, locally tuned suspension, optimised for Australia and New Zealand’s conditions. This engineering excellence delivers a compliant and comfortable ride, both unladen and fully loaded. All models of the new Navara range also offer a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity.
Design: Authentic Nissan DNA Reimagined
The new Navara's exterior design draws inspiration from Nissan's rich ute and pickup heritage, seamlessly integrating signature elements that connect it to previous generations while pushing into a new, more advanced territory.
The design balances rugged capability with contemporary sophistication, ensuring the Navara looks equally at home on a construction site or in a suburban driveway.
For decades, the V-strut grille has been a hallmark of rugged Nissan utes and SUVs. The new Navara pays homage to this legacy, elevating the unbreakable, go-anywhere image. Members of Nissan’s global design team travelled to Australia and were inspired by the modified utes they encountered everywhere. This inspiration led to the bull bar-inspired V-strut shield, establishing a commanding presence at the front.
The three-slot design atop the grille pays tribute to the D21 Navara, while the C-shaped headlamps interlock seamlessly with the grille—a recurring theme in modern Nissan utes and SUVs. The precision of the headlamp design and signature shapes reflect Nissan’s expression of modern technology.
Additionally, the grille features a pattern composed of smaller V-strut motifs within the mesh. The designers have playfully integrated iconic shapes to create a grille that not only highlights the Navara’s performance and supports ample cooling but also reinforces its bold, confident stance.
"When working on the new Navara, we aimed to honour nearly 40 years of heritage while creating something fresh for today’s Australian buyers," said Ken Lee, Senior Design Director, Nissan Motor Corporation.
"This wasn't about nostalgia – it was about understanding what makes a Navara instantly recognisable and then evolving that for modern life in Australia and New Zealand. We needed to deliver a pickup that looks confident on a construction site but sophisticated enough for weekend family adventures. The design had to be both capable and aspirational, rugged yet refined."
The flagship PRO-4X grade showcases unique styling cues that distinguish it as the range-topping Navara. On the outside, it features a black finish on exterior design elements and ‘Lava red’ accents that communicate its enhanced off-road capability and premium positioning. A black sports bar, black 17-inch wheels with 265/65R17 all-terrain tyres and standard towbar complete the look.
Within the interior, all grades of the new Navara are spacious and thoughtfully appointed. The PRO-4X grade stands apart with Lava Red accents throughout, including on the leather accented seats, as well as embossed logos and high contrast stitching.
Technology Integration: Connected, Intelligent, Intuitive
The Navara incorporates a comprehensive technology suite designed to enhance both work and lifestyle applications. A standard 9-inch advanced infotainment system features DAB digital radio, Android Auto> and wireless Apple CarPlay> connectivity, ensuring seamless smartphone integration without cables. Additionally, ST-X and PRO-4X grades feature wireless smartphone charging, conveniently located within the lower instrument panel.
A 7-inch colour TFT dash display provides clear vehicle information for the driver and Australian customers also benefit from MyNISSAN Navara** Connected Car Services including remote HVAC control, emergency call functionality, stolen vehicle tracking, and remote door lock/unlock capabilities.
Advanced Safety: Comprehensive Protection for Families

Performance and Efficiency: Power Where You Need It
All models of the new Navara are powered by a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine delivering 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque matched to a wide-ratio six-speed automatic transmission. The proven powertrain provides the performance needed for serious work applications while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency.
Fuel consumption figures of 7.7L/100km (combined cycle)# demonstrate the engine's efficiency across the driving spectrum, from urban delivery work to highway cruising with heavy loads.
This powertrain combination ensures the Navara delivers when Australian drivers need it most – whether towing a boat to the coast, hauling equipment to a remote job site, or navigating challenging off-road terrain.
Both the driving experience and fuel economy are aided by newly adopted Electric Power Steering (EPS). The system reduces parasitic losses that affect fuel economy and enhances driving dynamics providing precise control across all driving conditions.
All-Wheel Drive: Confidence Across All Terrain
The new Navara will be available with a pair of advanced four-wheel-drive systems that seamlessly adapt to changing conditions, maximizing both fuel efficiency and performance. On applicable grades, an ‘Easy 4WD’ system automatically switches between two-wheel drive for highway cruising and four-wheel drive when extra traction is needed. An electronic rear differential lock is included standard to provide additional traction in demanding off-road scenarios.
Additionally, for ST-X and PRO-4X grades, a new ‘Super 4WD’ system offers full-time high-range mode with an open centre differential. A Torsen® Limited Slip Differential enhances cornering stability by optimizing torque distribution. These grades also feature seven terrain modes—Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock—allowing the driver to tailor engine and traction settings to suit the terrain.
Advanced traction management works in conjunction with the locally developed suspension system to provide superior handling and control across all surfaces. The system continuously monitors wheel slip, steering input, and terrain conditions to deliver power where it's needed most, ensuring confident progress whether navigating a muddy worksite or traversing remote station tracks.
