Team moves to third in the championship with four races to go

BERLIN, Germany (August 7, 2020) – Nissan e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi scored a podium in round seven of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, as racing returned from its Covid-19 hiatus with the first of three double-headers in Berlin. With teammate Oliver Rowland taking P7 in today’s race, and Buemi P7 in round six the day before, the team takes away 31 championship points.

Buemi qualified in P4 for round six and P2 for round seven in the back-to-back races, keeping the team’s Super Pole streak running at six appearances from the last six races. Buemi smoothly maintained his P2 for a majority of today’s race, while Rowland battled hard to keep his P7 qualifying position across the line.

Nissan participates in Formula E to bring the excitement of its powerful EV performance to racing fans worldwide, and to demonstrate the power and performance of its zero-emission EV technology.

On the first day of the double header in round six, Buemi finished in P7 from P4 on the starting grid, and Rowland P14 from P23.

With 31 points combined from the two races, Nissan e.dams moves to third in the team championship. With four races left to score points in of the Berlin season finale, it’s all to play for.

Staged behind closed doors at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport circuit, the three double-header races take place over nine days from Aug. 5 to Aug. 13, completing the revised season six calendar. Each pair of races will run on different track layouts.

“Today’s podium and a solid haul of championship points from both races, are a great boost for the team who have been working hard to get ready for this intense, six-race season finale,” said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan global motorsports director. “Nissan e.dams moves to third in the championship and there are plenty of points still on offer.”

Nissan’s new brand logo will feature across the Nissan e.dams team garage, race cars and driver suits throughout the Berlin finale. The new logo was unveiled at the July 15 world premiere of the all-new Nissan Ariya, a 100% electric crossover SUV.

“We take many positives from these this first pair of races in Berlin,” said Olivier Driot, Nissan e.dams team principal. “We kept our Super Pole appearance streak alive, and our car has good pace in both qualifying and the race. So we are keen to attack again in the next double-header event, on a different track layout, this weekend. We will fight hard for every championship point.

Driver Quotes

Sebastien Buemi

“A very good day for us. Second place in qualifying and the race means lots of points for the team. We are P3 in the team championship now. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the finale in Berlin, hopefully we can do a good job and continue to fight. All the hard work that the team has put in is paying off, so I’m happy we have this trophy. I will enjoy a day off tomorrow and come back strong on Saturday for round eight.”

Oliver Rowland

“A really good day for the team, with Seb in second and me in seventh. I think we made some big improvements on yesterday’s set up, and I was a bit unfortunate that I didn’t make it to Super Pole to try and start a bit closer to Seb. I think we have everything there, the speed and consistency in the car to fight at the front. I’m really happy and I think everything looks really positive for the next four races. We just need to keep doing the job that we’re doing and bring back as many points as possible. I’m sure we’ll be there in the end.”
