Melbourne, Australia –  Hawthorn Football Club superstar, and reigning AFL Brownlow medalist, Tom Mitchell has joined Nissan Australia as an official ambassador.

One of the Australian Football League’s (AFL) most respected players, Mitchell was Hawthorn’s best and fairest in 2017 and 2018, made the All-Australian team in the same years, and was the AFL players’ associations most valuable player in 2018.

Mitchell is Nissan Australia’s first AFL ambassador player signing since joining Hawthorn as official automotive partner.

“There’s a lot to like about Nissan, the fact that it is a global brand is really appealing, it’s a brand that I am extremely proud to be associated with,” said Tom Mitchell.

“Nissan makes family cars and Hawthorn is the family club, so the values that are shared between Nissan and the Hawthorn Football Club really align.”

Nissan is delighted to partner with Tom Mitchell.

“Tom is one of the nation’s best known and admired sportsmen and Nissan is proud to have him join our team,” said Nissan Australia marketing director Geraldine Davys.

“Tom will play an important role at select Nissan activations at Hawthorn home games, he will help promote Nissan’s involvement with the team in the wider community, as well as engage with the Dealership network and of course the fans.”

Having signed as an ambassador for the duration of Nissan’s current three-year sponsorship with the Hawks, Mitchell likes the look of both the top of the range Navara Dual Cab ST-X and the Nissan Pathfinder Ti.

“I love the look of the Pathfinder and the Navara because they offer plenty of space, which is good for me as I can put the dogs in the back,” said Mitchell.

“They are modern, appealing cars, they have Bluetooth, push button start, a reverse camera and the 360 degree camera – which is a great technology for parking.”

The Nissan Navara ST-X Dual Cab 4X4 has a 2.3 litre intercooled twin-turbo diesel engine that outputs 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

It includes satellite navigation with 3D mapping, a 360 degree Around View Monitor, reverse camera and rear parking sensors, a 7-inch integrated colour display with touch screen, dual zone automatic climate control, and a leather accented steering wheel as standard equipment.

Boasting 3,50kg braked towing capacity, the Navara ST-X Dual Cab 4X4 also comes with driver and passenger airbags, driver knee airbag and front to rear curtain airbags, Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Start Assist (HAS), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Brake Limited Slip Differential (BLSD), Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) and Brake Assist (BA).

The Nissan Pathfinder is available in four grades, including the new-to-the-range Pathfinder ST+,

The perfect family car, the Nissan Pathfinder stores 2,260 litres of rear cargo - with all seats folded - Bluetooth® handsfree phone system and audio streaming with voice recognition, iPod® compatible USB points, a rear view camera with predictive path technology, rear parking sensors, an 8-inch touch screen colour display, and features a long list of standard active safety technologies.

The range-topping Pathfinder Ti now includes Rear Door Alert, which is designed to notify the driver if children are left unattended in the vehicle, and comes with heated rear seats.

Nissan’s sponsorship with Hawthorn incorporates a range of entitlements including branding on Hawthorn’s team shorts and coaches’ apparel, change room signage on game days and the media backdrop.

The sponsorship also provides Nissan with activation opportunities at home games, branding at the MCG and at games held in Tasmania, and access to corporate facilities - including the creation of the Nissan Lounge at the MCG.

The relationship also extends to the Box Hill Hawks in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Hawthorn’s team in the Victorian Football League Women’s (VFLW) competition.

Nissan has a history of AFL involvement. It was most recently a major sponsor at Richmond Football Club between 1998 and 2002, then returned to the Tigers in 2009 and 2010.

Nissan is an active sponsor of elite Australian sport, with the auto maker also supporting Melbourne City Football Club (A League) and Netball Australia.

Other Nissan Australia ambassadors include Australian netball representatives Jo Weston and Caitlin Bassett.
