The Australian Government has introduced a Treasury Laws Amendment Bill which affects the Fringe Benefit Tax for eligible new zero or low emissions vehicles registered on or after 1 July 2022. Electric vehicles with a dutiable value below the LCT threshold of $89,332 are eligible for this FBT exemption.

ACT provides a full stamp duty exemption for purchase of eligible EVs as well as 2 years free registration (other charges associated with registering a vehicle such as Motor Accidents Compensation and third party insurance still apply).

As part of the Sustainable Households Scheme, Interest-free loans of up to $15,000 will be available to eligible homeowners to invest in a range of sustainable products for their homes, including new and used zero emissions vehicles and household zero emissions vehicle charging infrastructure.

From 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2027, the NT Government will waive stamp duty fees for the sale of eligible plug-in EVs, saving up to $1,500. Additionally, the NT government will waive registration fees payable on eligible new and existing plug-in EVs (Motor Accidents Compensation and third party insurance still applies) - providing an annual $91 saving.

From 21 April 2023, the QLD government will offer a $3,000 or $6,000 rebate on new zero emission vehicles with a Vehicle Subtotal (dutiable value) of $68,000 or less. For eligible vehicles purchased from 21 April 2023, the EV rebate is available to Queensland residents and businesses with premises in Queensland. Households earning up to a total gross household income of $180,000 per year may be eligible for a $6,000 rebate. Households earning above this threshold may be eligible for a $3000 rebate.  Details of the new requirements, and an updated application form will be available online from 1 July 2023.

The South Australian ceased their battery electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle subsidy program on 31 December 2023. South Australia continues to provide a 3-year registration exemption for eligible new battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles first registered from 28 October 2021 and up to 30 June 2025.

From the 17^th of November 2023, the Tasmanian Government is offering an Electric Vehicle Rebate of $2,000 to individuals on the purchase of eligible new electric vehicles. The scheme is available for the first 375 eligible vehicles registered.

The Victorian Government closed applications for their ZEV Subsidy of $3,000 on new zero emission vehicles on the 30th of June 2023.

$3,500 rebates on the purchase of eligible electric and hydrogen vehicles. The rebate is available for 10,000 eligible vehicles licensed in WA, or until 10 May 2028, whichever comes first. Rebate is paid by redemption from WA government post purchase and registration of vehicle.
