Petrol or Diesel, 2WD or 4WD?
This country has a lot of places to visit and the Nissan X-TRAIL offers you three ways to get there. All X-TRAIL engines give you the power you need but, just as importantly, achieve great fuel economy. You also now have the choice of running your adventures on 2WD or 4WD, as well as petrol or diesel.
2.5 litre petrol engine
The 2.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine delivers an impressive 125kW of power and 226Nm of torque thanks, in part, to its Continuous Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), which optimises performance. It's available with a 6-speed manual transmission on the ST model or the incredibly smooth automatic Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with 6-speed M-Mode on all models.
2.0 litre petrol engine
The new X-TRAIL 2WD features an efficient 2.0 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine, available with a 6-speed manual transmission on the ST model or an incredibly smooth automatic Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) on all models. This efficient engine is perfect for around town and getting out on the open road on your next adventure.
2.0 litre diesel engine
The 2.0 litre common rail turbo-diesel engine is no slouch either. It features a variable nozzle turbo charger that helps deliver more power and lower emissions, giving you 127kW of power and 360Nm of torque on the manual model. Your transmission choices are a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with M-Mode.
DOHC
A double overhead cam is characterised by two camshafts located within the cylinder head, one operating the inlet valves and one operating the exhaust valves.
ALL-MODE 4x4-i technology
Whether you're cruising along a highway or heading off the beaten track, you'll really appreciate the X-TRAIL's intelligent ALL MODE 4x4-i system. The dashboard rotary dial makes it easy to change between three driving modes while driving: 2WD for normal driving conditions, AUTO which continually monitors all four wheels and instantly distributes the ideal amount of torque between them and, for serious off-roading, LOCK which splits the front and rear wheel torque evenly for maximum stability and traction (Ti/TL 4WD interior shown).
Xtronic CVT transmission
The X-TRAIL petrol's Xtronic Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) is a computer controlled ‘stepless' transmission providing a virtually limitless number of ratios, ensuring the engine is always working as efficiently as possible. It's more comfortable, too: a long uphill drive in a conventional automatic will invariably be accompanied by regular down shifts as the engine hunts for power. With CVT, the engine revs stay constant as the transmission itself adjusts seamlessly to ensure momentum is maintained. For a more sporty drive, 4WD models feature Manual Mode (M-Mode), which is operated via the central gear stick, 6 set ratios can be accessed manually by nudging the lever forward or back (model shown for illustrative purposes only).
6-speed automatic
The smooth 6-speed automatic is a close ratio transmission designed for optimised gear selection to suit your driving conditions (TL 4WD interior shown).
6-speed manual
The 6-speed manual transmission offers improved gear design and surface finishing. The shift guiding plate lends an improved performance feel with wide gear ratios and reduced friction for improved fuel efficiency. The manual transmission is available on all diesel models and ST petrol models only (ST 4WD interior shown).
Towing capacity
Although there's plenty of luggage room inside, you might want to take some bigger toys with you, like a jet ski or the family boat. You'll find the X-TRAIL 4WD's 2,000kg braked towing capacity on petrol and manual diesel models will cope easily with just about anything you want to hook on the back (TS 4WD model shown).
Fuel economy
Petrol 2WD models boast a combined fuel consumption of just 8.4* litres per 100km on the CVT automatic and 8.5* litres per 100km on the manual. Petrol 4WD models have a combined fuel consumption of 9.1* litres per 100km on both manual and CVT automatic models, whilst diesel 4WD models have a combined fuel consumption of 7.2* litres per 100km on the manual and 7.4* litres per 100km on the 6-speed auto. The X-TRAIL fuel tank capacity is 65 litres (*figures have been calculated in accordance with ADR81/02. Actual fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions, driver behaviour, the condition of your vehicle and the accessories fitted).
Hill Start Assist
Also standard on 4WD models is Hill Start Assist, where the brake remains engaged for a few seconds while you switch from the brake to the accelerator, thus helping to prevent any roll back (vehicle shown for illustrative purposes only).
Hill Descent Control
Naturally, if we’re going to help you get up a hill more safely, we should help you get down too. So Hill Descent Control on 4WD models uses the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to keep your vehicle travelling at a controlled speed on the way down, helping you maintain complete control. If you choose a manual 4WD X-TRAIL, and activate Hill Descent Control, your vehicle speed will reduce to 7 km/h, helping you navigate and control your downward destination. Alternatively, if you choose an automatic 4WD model (including CVT), once Hill Descent Control is activated, by applying either the brake or accelerator you have even greater control, by having the option to control your speed from 4 km/h to 15 km/h (vehicle shown for illustrative purposes only).
Active Brake Limited Slip
Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) is designed to help you in slippery conditions. Without ABLS, if one wheel starts spinning, most of the power of the engine will go to that wheel and the car won't go anywhere. ABLS moderates the engine power and gently applies braking pressure to the wheel that's lost traction, allowing the power to go to the other wheels to get you moving again (Ti 4WD model shown).
Suspension
The Nissan X-TRAIL features a MacPherson strut front suspension system with coil springs and stabiliser bar, and a parallel multi-link strut rear suspension system that will keep you enjoying the ride whether you're on or off the main road (ST, ST-L and TS alloy wheels shown).
Power steering
Power steering improves manoeuvrability of the X-TRAIL around tight corners and during city driving (Ti/TL 4WD interior shown).
State Of The Art Safety
Both the 2WD and 4WD X-TRAIL models are packed with state of the art safety features so you can enjoy permanent peace of mind. Superior control and traction is achieved through Nissan's Electronic Stability Program (ESP), as well as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). You'll also find 6 standard SRS airbags including dual front, dual side and dual roof curtain airbags. Furthermore, there are ventilated disc brakes, front active head restraints and much more (4WD ST-L model shown).
Stablility Program
Electronic Stability Program, is an advanced safety feature, which helps you remain in control of your vehicle during critical situations to avoid serious accidents. The system achieves this by comparing the actions of the driver with the momentary vehicle behaviour and controls the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control Systems (TCS) accordingly, to initiate the appropriate corrective action by selectively braking individual wheels and controlling engine power. This stabilises the vehicle and keeps it on its intended path.
Vehicle design
Vehicle design and ride height offer excellent visibility for improved safety. The high intensity cabin structure is designed to maintain its integrity in the event of an accident.
Dual front airbags
Reduces the risk of facial and upper body injuries to the driver and front passenger in the event of a frontal collision. The airbags are designed to remain inflated long enough to help provide enhanced protection.
Dual side airbags
Side airbags are deployed in the event of a side impact to protect the driver and front passenger.
Dual curtain airbags
Furthermore, roof mounted curtain side impact supplemental airbags drop down in the event of a side impact for added head protection (Ti/TL 4WD interior shown).
Anti-lock Braking System
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps you retain directional control whilst braking. It optimises braking performance by sensing wheel lock and sending a signal to the braking system to release the locked wheel. As the wheel unlocks, it can be steered. The system individually applies and releases the brakes to help provide optimum stopping and control under extreme braking situations.
Brake Assist
In emergency braking situations, Brake Assist (BA) generates extra pressure on the braking system. Brake Assist and ABS work together to give optimum control by preventing wheel lockage when braking (Ti 4WD model shown).
Brakeforce Distribution
Senses the load condition of both passengers and luggage to optimise rear brakeforce and control front and rear brake distribution. This enables safer driving, whether on your own or while carrying a full load of passengers or cargo.
Seatbelt pretensioners
The front seatbelts include a pretensioner and load limiter. The pretensioner uses sensors to determine the severity of a potential crash and instantly tightens accordingly. Should additional force be exerted on the seatbelt, the load limiter ensures appropriate give so as to reduce any damaging pressure on the torso of front seat occupants.
Active head restraints
Front active head restraints provide additional neck protection for front seat occupants against serious injury from the effects of whiplash in the event of a rear collision.
Xenon headlights
The sharp white light produced by high intensity discharge bulbs on Ti and TL 4WD models offers outstanding illumination at night and in poor visibility conditions. Also featured are headlight washers for quick and easy cleaning of headlights when required.
Child safety
Three child seat anchorage points add greater seating flexibility, depending on your particular needs. Child safety rear door locks also prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors.
Side intrusion bars
Robust door reinforcements and an anti-intrusion door structure mean impact energy is distributed to the body side structures in the event of an accident.
Crumple zones
The front of the X-TRAIL features a crumple zone, which helps absorb impacts. The energy-absorbing interior steering column compresses during frontal impacts to improve occupant safety significantly. The rear, inbuilt crumple zone furthermore helps absorb impact and reduce the risk of injury.
Four disc brakes
Heat is dissipated more rapidly to improve braking action, promote less brake fade and enhance brake life.
NATS
The Nissan Anti Theft System (NATS) is an engine immobiliser that works via a chip located in the key fob which communicates with the vehicle's computer to allow it to start. If a different key is being used, the vehicle will not be allowed to start (key shown is for ST, ST-L and TS models).
Security alarm
Diesel models feature the added benefits of a security alarm.
