Necessity of maintenance
Nissan vehicles are manufactured using the latest
technology and under the strictest quality control standards.
They are also designed to minimize maintenance requirements with
longer service intervals to save you both time and money.
However, scheduled maintenance is necessary to ensure your
Nissan vehicle operates properly and efficiently for the reasons
listed below:
Lubricants
Your Nissan vehicle uses various kinds of oils and fluids,
including engine oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid,
battery fluid, and engine coolant. These oils and fluids play
very important roles, such as lubricating and cooling the
vehicle and preventing corrosion. Periodically they need to
be properly refilled or replaced.
Rubber parts
Hoses, belts and boots use rubber in their construction which
can deteriorate with age. They need to be replaced with new
ones if they show signs of wear.
Normal deterioration
Vehicles are equipped with many parts for which it is impossible
to avoid normal wear and tear such as tyres brake pads, clutch
discs, etc. They are indispensable for basic vehicle functions
and must be replaced periodically.
Failure to perform scheduled maintenance may result in reduced
vehicle performance or possible breakdowns, as well as exclusion
from warranty coverage.
The maintenance schedule is defined based on our careful
experimentation on the life span of parts or lubricants that
require regular replacement. Therefore, please make sure that
your Nissan vehicle receives proper maintenance care by following
the instructions in your Warranty Information & Maintenance Booklet. At the same time, it is
necessary for day-to-day vehicle operation checks to be performed
by you or on your behalf as mentioned under the "General Maintenance"
heading in the "Maintenance and do-it-yourself" section in
the Owner's Manual.
We appreciate your understanding of the importance of this
information and trust you will enjoy a long and satisfying
service experience at your Nissan Dealer.
What is maintenance?
Scheduled maintenance
There are two types of maintenance schedules. A Sales
Person or Service Adviser at your Nissan dealer will explain
to you which type of maintenance schedule you should follow
depending on your driving habits, climatic conditions in your
area, etc. The two schedules and their conditions are described
below:
Maintenance Schedule for Severe Driving Conditions (for
vehicles first registered after June 2001)
If you primarily drive your vehicle under one or more
of the conditions listed below, please follow the "Maintenance
Under Severe Driving Conditions" column of the maintenance
section of your Customer Information Booklet.
A: Driving in dusty conditions
B: Repeatedly driving short distances
C: Towing a trailer or caravan
D: Extensive idling
E: Driving in extremely adverse weather conditions or in areas
where ambient temperatures are either extremely low or extremely
high
F: Driving in high humidity or mountainous areas
G: Driving in areas which are high in salt or other corrosive
materials
H: Driving on rough and/or muddy roads or in the desert
I: Driving with frequent use of brakes
J: Frequent driving in water
Maintenance Schedule for Normal Driving Conditions
If you primarily operate your vehicle under conditions other
than those listed above, please follow the "Maintenance Under
Normal Driving Conditions" column of the maintenance section
of your Customer Information Booklet.
Unscheduled maintenance
Besides the scheduled maintenance items for which there are
fixed maintenance intervals, there are other items that should
operate satisfactorily without periodic maintenance. However,
if a malfunction of these items does occur, it could adversely
affect the engine or vehicle's performance. These items should
be inspected or adjusted if necessary, if a symptom of a malfunction
is observed or suspected.
Typical Maintenance Instructions for Emission Control System (petrol
engine only)
An example of the typical unscheduled inspection items would include but not necessarily be limited to the following:
- Adjust intake and exhaust valve clearances
- Check and adjust drive belts
- Check cooling system and ratio of Long Life engine coolant
- Check fuel lines
Under normal driving conditions, the air cleaner filter should be replaced at the designated interval. However, driving the vehicle in dusty areas will cause rapid clogging of the element. Consequently, the element may have to be replaced more frequently.
- Check pre-air cleaner (where fitted)
- Check engine oil and oil filter
Under normal driving conditions, the engine oil and oil filter should be replaced in accordance with the maintenance schedule. However, under severe driving conditions, they may have to be replaced more frequently.
- Replace fuel filter (where fitted)
Under normal driving conditions, the filter should be changed at the designated interval. However, under severe driving conditions, it may have to be replaced more frequently.
- Replace spark plugs
- Check ignition wires
- Check EVAP vapour lines
- Check heated oxygen sensor (Exhaust gas sensor)
- Replace timing belt (where fitted)
- Check positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system
- Check PCV valve for proper operation.
Your Nissan Dealer Service Advisor will assist you with any questions you may have.

accidents. To ensure that your Nissan vehicle retains optimum
performance, we strongly recommend that you use Nissan Genuine
Parts and Approved Fluids.
Damage to vehicles as a result of the use of non-genuine
parts, improper fluids, fuels, or lubricants will not be covered
by the warranty. (Please refer to the "What is not covered"
page in the WARRANTY SECTION of your Customer Information
Booklet.) For vehicles registered prior to June 2001, please
refer to the Warranty Section of your Warranty Information
Book, provided with the Owner's Handbook.

Scheduled Maintenance Log
The Customer Information Booklet has a Scheduled Maintenance
Log which can be used as an easy way to remember what maintenance
checks need to be performed on your vehicle and when they
need to be performed.
This log can also be used to keep a record of your vehicle's
scheduled maintenance history. This record will help your
Nissan Dealer keep track of your vehicle's condition and performance
even after many years of use. In addition, the scheduled maintenance
history will ensure that you maximize the resale value of
your vehicle.
For vehicles registered prior to June 2001, please refer
to the Periodic Maintenance Service Records Section of your
Warranty Information Book, provided with the Owner's Handbook.
How to read and use the scheduled maintenance log
You
can find a list of scheduled maintenance items for every interval.
The kilometres or months at the top of the log are
there to remind you that you need to maintain your vehicle
either after a designated number of kilometres or
months, whichever comes first.
If you are using the Maintenance Schedule for Normal Driving
Conditions, you should follow the items listed in the "Normal"
column in the log. Likewise, if you are using the Maintenance
Schedule for Severe Driving Conditions, you should follow
the items listed in the "Severe" column in the log. The specified
terms from "A" to "J" in the "Severe" column refer to the
severe driving conditions' letters on the "Scheduled Maintenance"
page in this MAINTENANCE section.
Each time you have your Nissan vehicle maintained at a Nissan
Authorised Dealer, the Service Adviser will record their contact
name, the date, mileage and Dealer name, as well as sign the
log as evidence that the scheduled maintenance has been performed.
In the case that any additional services are required as
a result of scheduled maintenance, the Service Adviser will
include this recommendation in the "Memo" column in the log.
For vehicles purchased prior to June 2001 please refer
to your Owner's Handbook, Section 8 for Maintenance and Service
requirements.
