This interesting trek takes you from the small mountain town of Dargo first along the valley of the Wonnangatta and then up the steep and spectacular Billy Goat Bluff track to the Pinnacles and the impressive view from the fire lookout tower. From there the route follows the Moroka Road past some of the well known names of the Victorian High Country such as McFarlane's Saddle and Arbuckle Junction. From this major road junction the route heads south descending from the surrounding snow plains country of the Lost Plain and Holmes Plain finally crossing the Wellington River, where the blacktop begins. The bitumen road snakes beside access to many popular camping sites on the river's bank before arriving at the small hamlet of Licola. |

Just over two hours from Melbourne, Rubicon and Big River State Forests offer four wheel drive tracks ranging from easy to difficult. On our journey many of the tracks were closed due to the seasonal closures, but we still managed to come across some deep snow as we drove up around Mount Bullfight which sits 1469 metres above sea level. |
