Nissan PlayStation GT Academy 2016

What happens when you take elite Gran Turismo gamers out of the living room and into the driving seat of Nissan Motorsport vehicles? Nissan and Sony held the first GT Academy in 2008 to find out, and since then the programme has been defying both common sense and motorsport tradition. The academy finds people who are exceptional at video games and, in a matter of months, helps turn them into professional drivers for Nissan.

Australian Finals

The Australian Finals were held at Warner Brother Movie World on the Gold Coast from September 10th -11th. The Australian Finals  tested a combination of Gran Turismo Sport play, driving in Nissan sports cars, fitness and media skills. The national competition will then gave six lucky winners the opportunity to travel to the famous Silverstone circuit in the UK to compete for Australia at the GT Academy International Race Camp.

Race Camp

From the Australian Finals, the action moved onto the legendary Race Camp in Silverstone UK, where the competitors were put through their paces on track in Nissan sports cars under the watchful eyes of high profile judges and mentors. The winner from Race Camp was invited to take part in the intensive Nissan Driver Development Program (NDDP), where they could qualify for an international race licence and race for Nissan professionally as an elite NISMO Athlete - following in the footsteps of the 2015 GT Academy International winner, Australian Matt Simmons.
